Rise of hydroponics

A simple blog (that took me hours to type) about how a project is done in Inovus

Hi, just starting my first blog in Inovus Blogs. I’m in a bored state now so let me take you to the boring story of how it all started. Well before we get to it, I need to take you back before 15th century …,

Babylon hydroponics mythical
As if there was hydroponics in babylon

well I would not do that, what did you think that I’m a historian and if you’re a nerd then google it.

Anyway, it started in November, I think. We got the fund and support to build it. I think it was first project without many restriction and paper works (if we exclude the bills).

We thought about doing something big and started brainstorming (if that’s the right word for it). Then the idea of automatic hydroponics system came into our brain. Well when we get a new idea we search for it in the google to know if anyone had done the same thing. If so what we do is copy that unless you are this guy:

But there was no tutorial matching my needs and most of the diy creators used rpi for controlling, networking and acting as the brain. And I didn’t want to use rpi for this; what I needed for this project is esp32 with web dashboard and firebase integration. It was just a simple project that would take us a month. We would discuss about it, what, how, future changes, business ideas etc. And that took us a month, then it was December we decided to buy the necessary components and still just planned about the project without doing anything. We thought that we should start it when the components have arrived. Seeing this routine everyday someone reacted:

No, they didn’t react like this, they don’t use bleeps in conversation as in the video.

So, we started our journey into programming but as I said there wasn’t any good code matching our needs and chatGPT was giving nonsense of a code for esp. In that moment I decided that I will determine how the code for esp will go and not some AI chatbot and started to design the flow and code. But then I realized:

I’ve done a personal weather data retrieval project earlier so firebase Real Time DataBase (RTDB) integration was a piece of cake. I’ve added some basic functionality here and there but it was working fine which has a low probability in my projects. After some day we got a 4” (inch) pipe I think. It was a used pipe for similar purpose but hey its sufficient, so we carried on. We cleaned it and drilled hole into it for appropriate size for the planters (or pots, whatever you call them). And there are some with even problems for that. They needed get to a final verdict if it’s the problem of the hole or the thing that we put into it (in the pipe I mean) if it is loose. This conversation was so important as it took more than half an hour, as if their life depended on it.

Note:

I don’t know if the pipe story was first or it happened after I started programming. My memory may be entangled so enjoy the story as it is.

If I’m interested and writes another blog there might be a part 2……
